The Russian could make his NHL debut on Wednesday.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — It's finally Ivan Miroshnichenko time for the Washington Capitals.

Washington recalled Miroshnichenko, along with forward Hendrix Lapierre, from the AHL's Hershey Bears on Tuesday ahead of the NHL roster freeze, which takes effect on Tuesday night and will go until Dec. 28. It will pause all trades, loans and waiver activity.

Sonny Milano remains on the injured reserve, and T.J. Oshie went on IR as well after missing Sunday's game with a lower-body injury. He is expected to go on the injured reserve, which will make enough space for both of them.

To make room, Joe Snively returned to the AHL and Lucas Johansen hit waivers on Monday.

Miroshichenko is having a strong rookie season with the AHL's Hershey Bears, leading his team's freshman class in goals (8), assists (7) and points (15) through 27 games. He recently got promoted to the top line after improving his play at both ends of the ice and proving to be a high-danger player.

That impressive play earned him a call-up in these times, as he could make his NHL debut as soon as Wednesday against the New York Islanders. Last year, the Russian made his return to hockey after winning a battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He shined in the KHL, and at the end of the year, terminated his deal to make his NHL dream come true.

Meanwhile, Lapierre returns to Hershey. The 21-year-old has three points in 11 games up with D.C. this season and recently returned to the Bears following a month-long recall.

Washington will practice at 10:30 a.m. at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Miroshnichenko and Lapierre will be present.
