ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline looming and some questions that need answering this week, and they kicked off their week with a transaction as they returned Pierrick Dubé to the AHL's Hershey Bears.
Dubé appeared in three NHL games this season and is among the AHL's top goal scorers with 24 goals in 50 games with Hershey this season. He will get more ice time as he returns to the Bears to continue his development.
Ivan Miroshnichenko, who was called up along with Dubé to help fill voids at the NHL level, remains up with the big club.
It is unclear what Dubé's reassignment means for the group, but it brings the roster down to 22 skaters. Nic Dowd, Martin Fehervary and T.J. Oshie all remain on the injured reserve.
It could indicate that Dowd is ready to return, as he was not ruled out for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and has been making progress at practice.
Washington also has questions to answer regarding its approach to the deadline, which is Friday at 3 p.m.
