The Capitals saw their prospects step up once again en route to a 4-2 win.
The Washington Capitals saw their prospects rise to the occasion once again on Saturday, as Ivan Miroshnichenko and Hendrix Lapierre kept their hot streaks going en route to another dominant win for the Hershey Bears over the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Miroshnichenko struck twice — in style, nonetheless — while Lapierre added a goal of his own for a 4-2 win for Hershey in Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Finals. Hershey leads the series 2-0.
In the first period, Miroshnichenko struck on the power play, scoring from a sharp angle to make it 1-0. Later in the second, he skated into the offensive zone with a head full of steam, and then deked out a defender before crashing the crease and scoring an in-tight goal to make it 2-0.
The Russian's five goals are tied with Ethen Frank, who also scored in the win, for the most on the Bears and second-most in the AHL so far in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Miroshnichenko's five goals have come over the last three games; he struck twice against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to close out the opening round, and then he had a highlight-reel breakaway goal in Game 1 against Hartford before scoring two on Saturday.
Then, in the third period with Hershey up 3-0, Lapierre got to the front of the net and tipped in a point shot from Jake Massie to add to the onslaught for the Bears.
Lapierre now has points in three straight playoff games and has found the scoresheet in all but one game so far this postseason.
Hunter Shepard stopped 22 of 24 shots en route to the win.
