The Washington Capitals are back in action and face a tall task in maintaining their playoff spot on a busy night as they take on the Buffalo Sabres, and they won't fix what isn't broken after a strong 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters in Buffalo that the lineup will remain the same as it was last game, meaning that Ivan MIroshnichenko will sit out again for Nicolas Aube-Kubel.
Charlie Lindgren will also get the start after stunning with a 42-save performance in Tuesday's victory in Detroit.
Here are the lines:
Alex Ovechkin-Connor McMichael-T.J. Oshie
Aliaksei Protas-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson
Max Pacioretty-Hendrix Lapierre-Sonny Milano
Beck Malenstyn-Nic Dowd-Nicolas Aube-Kubel
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Alex Alexeyev-Nick Jensen
Trevor van Riemsdyk-Vincent Iorio
Charlie Lindgren
Darcy Kuemper
Washington will also be keeping an eye on the out-of-town scoreboard as the Detroit Red Wings take on the Pittsburgh Penguins as both teams look to get back in playoff positon.
At the end of the day, Carbery said the team's focus is on its own performance, as D.C. needs two points regardless in order to stay comfortably in the race. He also hopes to see a stronger performance after last week's disappointing 6-2 defeat.
"It was not a good night in this building, not just on the scoreboard. Even though it was tight for a while... we got exposed big time in a lot of different areas," Carbery said. "We've talked about it, we addressed it, we know what type of team they are. We know the strengths and we felt that last week, and hopefully, we're better prepared and can handle that."
