The Capitals placed Roy on the IR on Monday to make space for Sgarbossa.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — After an off day following a tough loss in Tampa Bay, the Washington Capitals got back to work on Monday with a productive practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
There was a new face at practice, as Mike Sgarbossa joined the mix after being called up over the weekend.
Sgarbossa was given a simple message from head coach Spencer Carbery: to play his game and play hard, as he takes over as the third-line center amid struggles for Hendrix Lapierre to open the season.
Lapierre drew out of the mix, skating as an extra with Sonny Milano.
Here are the line combinations:
Aliaksei Protas-Dylan Strome-Alex Ovechkin
Connor McMichael-Pierre-Luc Dubois-Tom Wilson
Jakub Vrana-Mike Sgarbossa-Andrew Mangiapane
Brandon Duhaime-Nic Dowd-Taylor Raddysh
Sonny Milano-Hendrix Lapierre
Jakob Chychrun-John Carlson
Martin Fehervary-Dylan McIlrath
Rasmus Sandin-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Alex Alexeyev
Logan Thompson
Charlie Lindgren
Meanwhile, Matt Roy was back on the ice again, skating before practice and sticking with the team for a bit in a non-contact jersey before leaving the ice before some more intense team work.
Roy was placed on the injured reserve on Monday to make space for Sgarbossa to come up to D.C. He can be activated off sooner rather than later, as it's retroactive.
