The Capitals continued to work on game situations and saw Alex Ovechkin back in the mix at practice on Tuesday.

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- It was another action-packed day for the Washington Capitals at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, as Alex Ovechkin returned from a maintenance day to take part in a busy practice.

On Tuesday, the team ran its lines and worked on breakouts and entries. To close things out, different groups worked on sustaining pressure in the offensive zone and clearing the puck out of danger's way.

Washington had worked on different game situations on Monday, with head coach Peter Laviolette having the team work on 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 scenarios while closing things out with a shootout.

In addition to Ovechkin's return, Craig Smith was back on the ice for practice after leaving Monday's skate with a lower-body injury. The 33-year-old had been listed as day-to-day but was a full participant on Tuesday and stayed on the ice for the entire practice.

Sonny Milano, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, remained out of the mix and did not skate. The 26-year-old missed Saturday's game and was listed out for at least a week, but Laviolette said that Milano is starting to feel better and is progressing.

Nic Dowd, who skated Monday, was not on the ice. He took a maintenance day, and Matt Irwin played forward in his place.

Here were the lines on Tuesday, with Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren between the pipes at both ends.
