The Washington Capitals will be back in action on Thursday and looking to keep the ball rolling as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers, but at the same time, they're dealing with another injury up front.
Sonny Milano suffered an upper-body injury over the weekend, and, despite practicing the last two days, has been placed on the injured reserve and will be out for at least a week. Milano did take a high hit from Jacob Trouba back on Saturday but did finish out the game.
Joe Snively has been called up from the AHL's Hershey Bears to help fill in and will take Milano's spot on the third line alongside Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie. He has 21 points in 25 games so far with the Bears this season.
"We thought it'd be a good opportunity to give him a look," Carbery said of Snively, adding that he didn't have the camp that he hoped but has had a strong showing.
With Snively in, Matthew Phillips will be the odd man out up front again. Lucas Johansen and Alex Alexeyev are the healthy scratches on defense.
Meanwhile, Charlie Lindgren will get the start. Lindgren is coming off a shutout over the top-ranked New York Rangers. Darcy Kuemper started on Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Here are the full projected lines:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson
Aliaksei Protas-Connor McMichael-Anthony Mantha
Joe Snively-Evgeny Kuznetsov-T.J. Oshie
Beck Malenstyn-Nic Dowd-Nicolas Aube-Kubel
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Rasmus Sandin-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Joel Edmundson-Nick Jensen
In other injury news, Max Pacioretty is on this road trip with the team as he has officially joined the group while continuing to work his way back from his retorn Achilles. He's not expected to play on this trip or before the holiday break, but it's still a promising step in the right direction.
Puck drop between the Capitals and Flyers is at 7 p.m. ET at Wells Fargo Center.
