Alex Ovechkin will miss his eighth game of the season, T.J. Oshie has been shut down and more updates ahead of Monday's tilt with the New York Islanders.

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- The Washington Capitals are limping through their final three games of the season and will be dressing just 17 skaters for the third straight game with several key players out of the mix for Monday's tilt against the New York Islanders.

Alex Ovechkin will miss his second consecutive game with an upper-body injury and remains day-to-day. This will be the eighth game that Ovechkin has missed this season. Washington is 0-7-0 without him this season and has dropped the last 11 games overall that he's been out.

T.J. Oshie, meanwhile, will miss his fourth straight game and has officially been shut down for the remainder of the season. He has not played since leaving action against the Tampa Bay Lightning after the first period.

The 36-year-old is dealing with a lingering upper-body injury that has been "troubling him" for some time, per head coach Peter Laviolette. It is unclear whether or not he will need surgery.

Oshie admitted in an exclusive 1-on-1 that he has been dealing with injury for quite some time and expects to continue battling through ailments through the remainder of his career.

"Unfortunately, the rest of my career here, there's just gonna be some times where I'm just not able to walk for a couple of weeks, and that's the way she goes," he revealed.

Anthony Mantha and Trevor van Riemsdyk, who skated in non-contact jerseys on Monday, will not play, etiher.

In addition, Nic Dowd was also absent from practice and is expected out for Monday. In turn, the Capitals recalled Joe Snively from the AHL's Hershey Bears using the Roster Emergency Exception rule. Washington does not have the cap space for a normal recall.

With Dowd out, Aliaksei Protas will shift to center to give the Capitals four guys down the middle. Snively and Beck Malenstyn will play on the wing.
