The Capitals defenseman went down hard after a hit from Parker Kelly.
WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals will be without Rasmus Sandin for some time after he suffered an upper-body injury on a hard hit in Sunday’s loss to the Ottawa Senators.
In the final seconds of the first period, Sandin was entering the offensive zone when he took a heavy hit along the boards from Parker Kelly that sent him down to the ice. From there, a scrum ensued as Mark Kastelic got into it with Tom Wilson and Dylan Strome. There was no call on Kelly, but Kastelic got four minutes for roughing.
Sandin logged 7:09 minutes before leaving the game, and after the loss, head coach Spencer Carbery had a concerning update.
“He’s gonna miss some time,” Carbery said.
In 67 games this season, Sandin has three goals and 20 assists.
Losing Sandin is a major blow to D.C., as he plays a crucial top-4 role and also logs time on the second power-play unit.
