The Capitals blueliner’s new deal carries an AAV of $4.6 million.

The Washington Capitals are taking care of more business ahead of the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline and have locked down Rasmus Sandin with a five-year extension.
Sandin’s new deal carries an AAV of $4.6 million. He was set to become a restricted free agent in June and is now one of three players signed through 2029, joining Tom Wilson and Aliaksei Protas, who signed a five-year extension earlier this year.
The Swedish blueliner, who was acquired last February, has been a welcome addition to the Capitals' defense corps, providing offense and skating top-4 minutes. Through 52 games this season, Sandin has three goals and 17 assists for 20 points, and after a rough start offensively, has started to find his touch.
Washington hopes that Sandin can help be one of the leaders and core member of the blue line in the coming years, along with Martin Fehervary. He is currently paired with John Carlson, who he said he has been able to learn a lot from.
