The Capitals are keeping Riley Sutter on board for another year following a strong season on the Bears' fourth line.

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- The Washington Capitals have re-signed Riley Sutter to a one-year deal, the team announced on Tuesday.

His new one-year contract is a two-way deal that pays $775,000 at the NHL level and $90,000 at the AHL level.

Sutter was one of three restricted free agents to receive a qualifying offer from the the team, joining forward Henrik Borgstrom and defenseman Martin Fehervary. Borgstrom signed in Sweden, while Fehervary is still working out his new contract with the club.

The 23-year-old is coming off a strong season for the AHL's Hershey Bears that saw him serve a physical presence and shut down other team's stars as part of one of the AHL's strongest fourth lines with Beck Malenstyn and Mason Morelli.

In 69 regular season games, Sutter had five goals and seven assists for 12 points. And, in the postseason, he scored two goals and added four assists for six points in 20 games; one of his goals was an overtime winner against Coachella Valley en route to the Calder Cup.

Sutter went in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft. A member of the famed Sutter family, the budding prospect brings the same family playing style to the table. The 6-foot-4, 204-pound forward can play center or wing and uses his size to his advantage and doesn't shy away from throwing his weight around, and he can score clutch goals in big moments. He is a strong power forward who is a complete two-way player and has shown improvement when it comes to making plays in front of the net.

Washington shouted him out numerous times at the end of the season following Hershey's championship, and he is expected to continue to grow within the organization.
