ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have made their next round of cuts on Sunday, as they placed two players on waivers while assigning another handful of skaters to the Hershey Bears before their training camp opens on Monday.
The Capitals placed forward Riley Sutter and defenseman Chase Priskie on waivers for the purpose of a loan to Hershey. Washington then assigned forwards Pierrick Dube, Ethen Frank, Ryan Hofer, Henrik Rybinski, Alexander Suzdalev and Bogdan Trineyev, along with goaltenders Garin Bjorklund and Mitchell Gibson, to the Bears. Meanwhile, defensemen Logan Day, Nick Leivermann, Jack Massie, Jon McDonald and Aaron Ness have been released to Hershey's training camp.
There are now 35 skaters remaining up with the Capitals. Looking at the forward competition, Matthew Phillips, who had a multi-point outing in Saturday's preseason loss, is still in the mix, as well as Beck Malenstyn, Connor McMichael, Joe Snviely, Aliaksei Protas and Hendrix Lapierre.
On the blue line, Hardy Häman Aktell, Vincent Iorio, Alex Alexeyev and Lucas Johansen are the names to watch as they've each made a big impression and continue to impress with things coming down to the wire.
Hunter Shepard is also getting an extended look up in D.C. as he works with Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren before the regular season.
Opening night rosters must be finalized by 5 p.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 9.
