ARLINGTON, V.A. — Despite not taking the ice for the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, Tom Wilson was around the facility and in high spirits as he sported a splint on his nose on Tuesday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. And luckily for D.C., Wilson's not expected out long.

Wilson was officially listed as day-to-day on Tuesday with an upper-body injury that he suffered on Sunday. He hurt his nose late in the third period of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings when he caught the butt-end of Alex Laferriere's stick up high while going in for a hit. He left momentarily for quick repairs but returned to help the team close out the victory.

Ultimately, though, missing Tuesday's practice was more or less just an extra day off for the 29-year-old, per head coach Spencer Carbery. He is expected to be back on the ice on Wednesday and be good to go from there.

"He took today off, pretty sore, but I think he will be able to practice tomorrow and then that would be our big indicator that he would be available for Seattle," head coach Spencer Carbery said after practice.

Alex Ovechkin also had the day off due to maintenance, marking his second maintenance day in the last four days. He was hurting at the end of Friday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes following a collision with Jordan Staal, and as a result, was a game-time decision against the Kings. He ultimately played Sunday, but Carbery said he was hurting a bit after that win over L.A., too.

Ovechkin was also around the facility on Tuesday, though, and took the time to catch up with first responders attending practice. The hope is that he will be good to go as well.

“He was a little bit nicked up after (Sunday's) game, so a good day to give him a maintenance day," Carbery said. "Hopefully, he’ll be available for practice tomorrow.”
