    Capitals On The Hockey News
    Jan 12, 2024, 17:19

The Capitals are working through quite a bit on the injury front.

The Washington Capitals are in for a busy weekend against the New York Rangers, and they will again face some true game-time decisions as they navigate a few injuries up front. The biggest question mark, of course, is Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin, who took a maintenance day Friday and has missed four of the last five practices, will again be a game-time decision and is "touch and go" for the home-and-home set with the Blueshirts as he navigates a lower-body injury, head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters on Friday, via NHL.com's Tom Gulitti. He suffered that injury in a collision with Jordan Staal back on Jan. 5.

The 38-year-old has been a game-time decision the last two games but has taken warmups and ended up dressing. He picked up assists in both of those outings and is riding a season-best six-game point streak.

Carbery also told reporters he is hopeful that Tom Wilson will be back in the lineup after missing Thursday's game with the Seattle Kraken due to a broken nose. It marked the first game of the season that he had missed.

Wilson broke his nose near the end of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings when he took the butt-end of Alex Laferriere's stick to the face. He left the game momentarily but ultimately returned to close things out.

The 29-year-old didn't practice on Tuesday or Thursday but was skating on Wednesday and Friday in a full face shield. He is expected to remain in the fishbowl until his nose finishes healing.

Meanwhile, John Carlson, who also took a maintenance day, will play but was getting some rest after skating 24:52 minutes on Thursday.

In other injury news, Rasmus Sandin skated for a bit in a non-contact jersey, per Monumental Sports Network's Tarik El-Bashir, but remains on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury. The same goes for Sonny Milano, who has missed the last 15 games with injury.
