The Washington Capitals have selected Milton Gästrin with the 37th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Gästrin was expected to go in the first round but ultimately fell to No. 37, where D.C. pounced on the opportunity.

The Swedish forward is known as a steady, promising and consistent player with a high hockey IQ and a simple game. He's versatile and able to play either center or wing, and he's a great play driver who can make smart passes, move the puck in transition and create time and space for his linemates. It also helps that he has a wicked shot and insane release.

In 42 games in the J20 Nationell with MoDo last season, he had 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points, and also added 32 points in 19 international games for Sweden's U18 team this past year. He is set to play with MoDo in the HockeyAllsvenskan next season, the second-highest tier of hockey in Sweden.

Gästrin is a young player who plays beyond his years and is able to use his 6-foot-1 frame and speed to his advantage. He's a strong skater who doesn't shy away from puck battles, and he's a smart playmaker who can take on multiple roles in the lineup.

He's a solid pickup on the depth chart for D.C. as a player who never gives up on any puck and can make things happen from just about anywhere on the ice. Washington also likes high-character leaders, and Gästrin certainly fits the bill there.
