ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie appears to be entering the next chapter, and will make a special announcement on Monday.

Oshie will make the announcement, which is likely his retirement from the NHL, at the Georgetown fountain where he and his teammates swam after winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.

The 38-year-old did not play on 2024-25 amid ongoing back issues and spent the final year of his contract on long-term injured reserve. It was a difficult decision for Oshie to step away, but one he felt he had to make for his family and overall well-being off the ice.

Oshie, who was acquired in the 2015 offseason from the St. Louis Blues, emerged as a staple on and off the ice and one of the team’s core members.

In 569 games over nine years with the Capitals, Oshie picked up 385 points while helping lead the team to its first championship. He played in a total of 1,010 NHL games between Washington and St. Louis over 16 years, racking up 302 goals and 393 assists for 695 points.
