ARLINGTON, V.A. — One of the first matters of business for Cole Hutson when he joined the Washington Capitals? Making his way to Target with Ryan Leonard.
The main objective? Find an Xbox, so that Hutson could join in on the team Fortnite action.
"Me and (Brandon Duhaime) have been playing for a little but, and then when Hutty got here, asked what to do if you're kind of living by yourself," Leonard told The Hockey News. "Not a whole lot to do. And I said, 'Honestly, picked up Xbox recently and started playing Fortnite.'"
Hutson, now living with Pierre-Luc Dubois, has been on an Xbox kick since arriving in the District, joining Leonard for duos (teams of two) and then helping Leonard an Duhaime in trios (teams of three). Dubois, who welcomed his first child earlier this year, is too busy with the baby and his dogs, but will watch the action.
The 19-year-old blueliner has been an immediate boost to their Fortnite success, with Leonard even admitting that Hutson's the better player.
"He knows he's better. Oh, yeah, he's very, very good," Leonard said. "I don't know how he got that good, but does he plays a lot of his brothers."
The three will do builds sometimes, but mostly have implemented a strategy, where they'll utilize Hutson as a ringer and lure other players out of hiding before going for the win.
"(Leonard's) the bait guy, and I kill everyone," Hutson grinned, re-affirming he was the better of the two. "It's a lot of fun."

One thing is certain: both on and off the ice, Leonard is just happy to be on Hutson's team, especially after having to have played against him in college.
"You want to be on his side of the things and not going out there against him and having to defend him," Leonard grinned. "He's great."
