"We can now get to work on creating a world-class facility for the best fans and athletes in the world," Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said.

The Washington Capitals got positive news on the arena front on Tuesday, as the D.C. City Council voted to approve legislation to transform Capital One Arena.

Capitals owner and Monumental Sports and Entertainment founder Ted Leonsis posted the news on X.

"We can now get to work on creating a world-class facility for the best fans and athletes in the world," Leonsis said.

With funding and new legislation, MSE will be able to get to work on making significant changes to the Capitals home venue, which will include upgrades to team facilities, arena amenities and more.

Last year, Leonsis had announced plans to move the Capitals and Washington Wizards to Alexandria, Virginia, but the senate killed the bill that would allow the city to go forward with a new state-of-the-art facility at Potomac Yard.

After that, Leonsis and D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser reached a deal that would keep MSE's sports teams in the District.

Capital One Arena has been home to the Capitals since 1997.
