The Capitals forward got a big kick out of hearing the theme blast through Capital One Arena.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals center Mike Sgarbossa got to the front of the net last week and buried his first NHL goal in over two years, and he got quite a kick out of what would come next.

The iconic "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme blasted through Capital One Arena as Sgarbossa's goal song, an ode to the movie's character captain Hector Barbossa.

When it comes to the mastermind behind the pun, Sgarbossa couldn't take credit, though he's more than happy with the selection.

"It wasn't me," he told The Hockey News with a smile. "But I did get a kick out of it."

It looks like the in-arena DJs were the ones to select Sgarbossa's goal song. The Hershey Bears leading scorer was also amused by how long the song played, adding to the comedic effect.

"I think it ran for a bit too long, my song was about double the time as everyone else's," Sgarbossa laughed. "It was funny. I don't know who picked it, but good on them."

Sgarbossa, a long-time veteran of the NHL and AHL, has 75 games at the highest level under his belt, totalling five goals and nine assists for 14 points. He is up with the team to help fill in for Evgeny Kuznetsov and earned a recall following the All-Star Break.

His goal song is just the icing on top of what's been a memorable tenure up with the big club so far.

"It's been really fun, exciting to be back in the NHL and experiencing the playoff kind of push and grind. You never know when you're gonna have a shot at it, and for me, I was just trying to put the work in in Hershey and hopefully bide my time and wait for an opportunity, and luckily, an opportunity came up and I got to be ready for it and kind of take it," Sgarbossa said.

Whether the song will stick remains to be seen.
