The Washington Capitals will wrap up their two-game road swing in the Sunshine State on Wednesday when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning, and they're hoping to close things out on a positive note with a second consecutive victory.
Here's everything to know before puck drop at 7:30 p.m. at Amalie Arena. It's the last game of the team's annual mentors' trip.
Head coach Spencer Carbery tweaked the lines last game as the team continues to make do without Alex Ovechkin, who remains out the next few weeks with a broken leg.
Those new-look combinations got the job done in a 4-1 win over the defending Stanely Cup champion Florida Panthers on Monday, so D.C. will stick with what worked there.
The only change comes in goal, as Charlie Lindgren will start over Logan Thompson as the team continues to alternate netminders to open the season.
Here are the combinations for Wednesday's tilt against the Lightning:
Aliaksei Protas-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson
Connor McMichael-Pierre-Luc Dubois-Taylor Raddysh
Hendrix Lapierre-Lars Eller-Andrew Mangiapane
Brandon Duhaime-Nic Dowd-Ivan Miroshnichenko
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Jakob Chychrun-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Rasmus Sandin-Matt Roy
Charlie Lindgren
Logan Thompson
- Lars Eller struck twice last game and has three points in his last four outings since being traded back to D.C.
- Jakob Chychrun had a multi-point outing on Monday and has five points in his last five games.
- Pierre-Luc Dubois has points in three of his last four outings.
- Tom Wilson has assists in two of his last three games.
- Dylan Strome leads the Capitals with 29 points on the season and is among the NHL's scoring leaders.
- Speaking of Strome, he's only gone a handful of games this season without a point and will be fundamental against Nikita Kucherov and company.
- Look for Taylor Raddysh to try and get on the scoresheet. Moving him to the top-6 provided a major boost to that second line with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Connor McMichael.
- The Capitals power play continues to thrive with PPGs in five of the last six outings overall. Also, Washington's penalty kill on the road is operating at over 95 percent.
