Alex Ovechkin got some work in, Tom Wilson helped out at Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and Jakob Chychrun got married as the Capitals enjoyed their time away from the rink.
The Washington Capitals didn't have any representation at the 4 Nations Face-Off, so they got a week and a half to take a break and hit reset — and it paid off as they got quite a bit done over the break.
Captain Alex Ovechkin made the most of his time off, heading down to Miami to get some vacation time in with his wife and kids before getting some on and off-ice training in with former NHL blueliner Darius Kasparaitis.
Kasparaitis said that Ovechkin is in "great shape," and that he is in high spirits going into the back half of the season. Ovechkin sits just 16 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.
Like Ovechkin, several other Capitals looked to get in some sunshine, with Tom Wilson heading to Mexico, Charlie Lindgren taking a trip to the Dominican Republic and Andrew Mangiapane enjoying Turks and Caicos.
After his trip, Wilson returned to the District to put in some volunteer work. The 30-year-old forward headed to Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, along with his wife, Taylor, and teammate Trevor van Riemsdyk and his family, to help with intake for several rescue animals.

In addition to vacation time, other players enjoyed personal milestones; after getting some time in golfing with former teammates like Phil Kessel, Jakob Chychrun got married to his longtime girlfriend, Liv Ibrahim, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Washington returns from its time away on Wednesday for a 10:30 a.m. practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and will have a couple days of getting back in the swing of things before facing the Pittsburgh Penguins to open the back half of the season on Saturday.
