WASHINGTON — It was quite the Halloween night for the Washington Capitals, filled with tricks, treats, pucks and everything in between.
Alex Ovechkin had a goal and two assists, while Tom Wilson supplied a Gordie Howe hat trick — surprisingly, the first of his career — en route to a 6-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Here's what they had to say following the victory, live from the locker room.
On the Capitals' surge: "Yeah like, right now, we feel fun. We support each other, when you win the games, the kind of atmosphere always like that from the coaches, from the players. I hope it's going to continue like that, but we have to — it doesn't matter what's going to happen, because it's a long season. It's going to be ups and downs obviously, so we have to stick together no matter what."
On his scoring: "I can see empty netters, you know? (Strome) and Pro find me out there and I almost miss it, too, so. Kept it on the ice, so."
On how fun it is to watch Alex Ovechkin right now: "It's awesome. He celebrates like it's his first NHL goal. He's chasing something unreal... it's special... it just shows his hunger to score."
On his first career Gordie Howe hat trick: “It’s funny. It’s been a long career. My first goal and my first assist were in the same game, and Matt Carkner grabbed me with like 10 seconds left in the game. I was 18 or 19 years old and (he) said, ‘Do you want one?’ I said, 'I just want to celebrate my first goal.’ Fun to get that one under the belt.”
