Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports - Roy Excited To Reunite With Dubois, Slams Talk About Locker Room Issues: 'If I Hated The Guy, I Probably Wouldn't Have Come To Washington'

As he signed a six-year contract with the Washington Capitals, Matt Roy was excited about several opportunities, including the chance to reunite with Pierre-Luc Dubois. And if that weren't the case, he said, he wouldn't have signed.

Roy is tired of hearing about the rumors surrounding Dubois and his attitude in the locker room, and days after expressing his excitement to join Dubois in D.C. again spoke on his teammate and slammed that speculation on the Dropping The Gloves podcast.

"I feel like the media paints this picture of him, and to me, it couldn't be further from the truth. he's a great teammate, he's a great locker room guy, he gets along with everybody," Roy said on the show. "So in terms of all that, I don't know where the media is getting all this stuff. If I hated the guy, I probably wouldn't have come to Washington."

Dubois was traded to Washington by the Los Angeles Kings, where he and Roy played together, on June 19 in exchange for Darcy Kuemper. It will be his fourth team in four years as he looks to finally find his game and find a home with a franchise.

There had been reports of locker room issues in Winnipeg, Dubois' last team, and when he didn't fit in with the Kings after signing an eight-year extension following his trade there last summer, the speculation grew worse.

For Roy, though, it's all talk, and he is looking forward to seeing what Dubois brings to the District.

"He's one of my closer friends on the team, and I really think he's going to have a bounceback year and I think he's really gonna be good for the team," Roy added.

Head coach Spencer Carbery has also backed Dubois, saying that the preliminary conversations with him have gone great and that he believes he can bounce back and find his game.
