The Capitals teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Mid-Atlantic Region, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for the Hockey Fights Cancer skate.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Following practice on Saturday, the Washington Capitals headed back to the locker room and shared their stalls with local kids fighting cancer. Then, the players took things out on the ice and skated and caught up with the kids and their families as part of their annual Hockey Fights Cancer skate.

The Capitals teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Mid-Atlantic Region, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for the skate.

"Their life changes in an instant... to see them smile and be happy makes our job. It's nothing for us to do, it's part of the job, I think we all enjoy doing it," Dylan Strome said, adding of Ellie Berg-Wagner, who he skated with, "She was a really, really sweet little girl, and her mom said she hadn't seen her that happy in a long time."

"You get to know them and talk to them a little bit and see them smiling, it's nice," Nicklas Backstrom added.

Here are some of the scenes from the skate.
