Nino Niederreiter has been placed on injured reserve by the Winnipeg Jets with a lower-body injury and is expected to be out for a while as he recovers. His status has been described as week-to-week following surgery, and he has missed the last couple of games.

Niederreiter recently returned from playing with Team Switzerland at the 2026 Olympics, where he appeared in five games and scored one goal for his country. It is widely speculated that the injury that landed him on IR may have either surfaced or been aggravated during his Olympic participation, although exact details on the origin of the injury have not been released by the team.

This season for the Jets, Niederreiter has appeared in 55 games. He has scored eight goals and recorded 11 assists for 19 points, and has put 76 shots on net before his injury. These totals are below where many expected from the veteran winger, and he has seen reduced ice time as the year has gone on.

At 33 years old, Niederreiter has been an experienced presence in Winnipeg’s forward group and has played big minutes in past seasons, but this campaign has been a challenge on the production side. His lower-body surgery and IR placement mean he could miss a significant chunk of the regular season, and it remains to be seen how long his recovery will take.

Jets fans what do you think? Do you feel Niederreiter’s injury struggles this season and the timing of the Olympic break have impacted his game? Are you hopeful he can bounce back strong when he returns, or is this a sign it might be time to re-evaluate his role in the lineup going forward?
