Dylan Samberg has broken his foot.
The Winnipeg Jets lost more than just the game on Saturday evening in Tennessee.
Taking on the league-worst Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena, Winnipeg fell flat as the No. 1 club league-wide, losing 4-1 and falling to 17-4-0 on the season.
The biggest reason for concern, however, was not the fact the team dropped the second game of a road back-to-back with its backup goaltender in net.
It was that of the health of blueliner Dylan Samberg, who left in the second period after blocking his second shot of the game - this one, a powerful Steven Stamkos slap shot.
The shot had wounding effects, as Samberg did not return to the game.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed post-game that the defenceman broke his foot and will miss significant time.
The 25-year-old played out the rest of his shift, but immediately went down the Jets' tunnel and to their room for medical attention.
Moving up the depth chart following the departure of Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt this season, Samberg is on pace for a new single-season high in goals, assists and time on ice.
His loss will be sourly missed on the Jets' defensive side of things.
Already down Logan Stanley to injury, the combination of Josh Morrissey, Neal Pionk, Dylan DeMelo, Colin Miller and Haydn Fleury played out the remainder of the game.
Samberg's injury perfectly coincides with the anticipated return of Ville Heinola to the Jets, who has been on a short conditioning stint with the Manitoba Moose.
He will likely find his way back to the Jets' lineup with Fleury and Stanley looking to rotate in as able during Samberg's absence.
Arniel said that Samberg will now travel back to Winnipeg, separately from the team, and will get medical attention upon his return.
The rest of his teammates will now travel to Minnesota, where they will take on the Wild in a showdown between the two top clubs on Monday night.
