The Winnipeg Jets have picked up their second-straight victory with a 1-0 shutout over the San Jose Sharks.

The Winnipeg Jets scored once in the first period, but somehow it was enough to win the Valentine's Day affair over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday evening.

Morgan Barron's ninth of the season set a new career-high for the young forward, and helped pave the way as the lone tally in the low-scoring showdown with the 31st-place Sharks from Canada Life Centre.

Incredibly, Wednesday's tilt was San Jose's first game since the 31st of January. It certainly showed.

The Sharks put up just 17 shots on goal, to which Connor Hellebuyck didn't appear to have any difficulty.

However, the biggest stop of the night involved centreman Mark Scheifele who took over for his Vezina-winning netminder and dove in front of a sure goal, keeping the puck out with his knee.

"A lot of mini-sticks," Scheifele laughed postgame. "That was exactly what it was. I don’t think (Hellebuyck) knew where the puck was, so a defensive play comes out of me every once in a while."

Neither team managed to score on the power play, while San Jose recorded an exceptional 24 blocked shots on the night. Of Winnipeg's 40 shots on net, Kaapo Kahkonen turned aside all but one - Barron's first period marker.

Nino Niederreiter had a game-high five shots on goal, while Scheifele and Kyle Conner each put up for shots apiece.

"We had 84 shot attempts," head coach Rick Bowness said. "We had more than enough scoring chances to score more than one goal. It's not going in. Give their goalie a ton of credit. Huge saves. We were all over the net. Just keep pushing."

Hellebuyck's shutout was his third of the season, while his win was No. 25 on the year in 38 outings. It was also the thirtieth-straight game to which Hellebuyck allowed just three or fewer goals against.

Next up for Winnipeg is a test against the No. 1 ranked Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night in British Columbia. That game can be viewed live on Sportsnet at 9:00 PM central time.
