The Winnipeg Jets are, in fact, human after all.
On Sunday evening, Winnipeg concluded its three-game road trip with a loss to the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.
The Predators led throughout, despite a strong, late-game comeback effort from the visitors.
But simply put, goaltender Juuse Saros outplayed Jets' starter Laurent Brossoit, as Nashville scored more goals than their opponents.
Winnipeg had chances, no doubt, but it was the Nashville backstop that stepped up to the challenge, shutting down one of the league's hottest teams.
Entering the game with five-straight wins and having picked up points in 12 of their past 14 games, the Jets dropped their first game in regulation since a 3-2 home loss to Dallas back on November 11.
Despite the loss, Winnipeg has won five of its last six, and remains in a tie with Dallas for second in the division.
The Predators pulled ahead in the final minute of the opening frame, as Yakov Trenin put home his fourth of the year with just 20 seconds left in the period, putting Nashville up 1-0 through 20 minutes.
Things did not start much better in the middle stanza for the Jets, as the Predators added another two quick tallies before seven minutes had even ticked off the clock.
First, it was captain Roman Josi, whose sharp angle shot redirected past Brossoit just 1:25 into the frame, before Gus Nyquist scored a power play goal five minutes later.
Winnipeg entered the third period down 3-0, despite outshooting the hosts 23-17 through 40 minutes.
Josh Morrissey gave the Jets some life on a strong solo effort midway through the frame. His attempted net-front pass was broken up and landed right back on his, to which he put home his fourth of the year.
Moments later, the Nikolaj Ehlers drew a Spencer Stastney tripping minor, to which the Jets struck again, just 42 seconds after their first goal.
A Mark Scheifele face-off win led to Cole Perfetti's seventh of the season, six seconds into the power play. He picked up a perfect pass from Scheifele and buried a wrister off the iron and in.
The Jets pulled Brossoit for the extra attacker, and despite a number of quality chances, the red-hot offence could not find the equalizer, falling 3-2.
In giving up the three goals, Brossoit did turn aside 24 of Nashville's 27 shots in the game, while Saros made 32 stops on the 34 pucks put on net by Winnipeg.
Next up for Winnipeg is a four-game homestand beginning on Tuesday night against fellow Central Division rival Dallas Stars. The Jets then face off against Edmonton, Chicago and Carolina over the next week. Tuesday's game features a 7:00 PM central puck drop, and can be viewed live on TSN.
