The Manitoba Moose have officially found their leader.

On Wednesday morning, the Manitoba Moose announced Dominic Toninato as the team's captain for 2024-25.

Having begun the 25th season without an official leader, the Moose have their guy in journeyman forward Toninato.

With former captain Jimmy Oligny signing with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia this offseason, the captain's role was left for a player to be named at a later point.

It just so happens that November 27 was the date chosen to announce Toninato's new role.

As the 12th captain in franchise history, Toninato will join the likes of Mike Keane, Jason Jaffray, Scott Arniel, Nolan Baumgartner and Dallas Eakins - amongst others - that have gone before him to serve as a leader to the team.

Alongside Toninato, forward Mason Shaw and defenceman Ashton Sautner will be the alternates for the remainder of the season.

Toninato, a product of nearby Duluth, MN., has been with the Jets/Moose since 2020. He has skated in 107 games with Manitoba, while also participating in 99 games with the Jets.

The 30-year-old has 13 goals and 35 points in 184 career NHL games between Winnipeg, Colorado and Florida. He has 60 goals and 115 points in 210 career AHL games.
