Five Manitobans heard their names called at the inaugural Professional Women's Hockey League Draft.

Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque went No. 2 overall to Toronto, while Deloraine's Ashton Bell was chosen by Ottawa six selections later.

Brandon's Kristen Campbell was selected with the second pick of the third round - also by Toronto - before Winnipeg's Kati Tabin (Montreal) and Elm Creek's Corinne Schroeder (New York) were snatched up three picks apart as the draft wore on.

Taylor Heise was the No. 1 pick, as selected by the Minnesota franchise. In total, 90 players were selected by the six general managers of the new PWHL teams from a pool of 268 eligible women (PWHPA, PHF, NCAA, U-Sports, international competition).

Each of the six teams entered the draft with three free agent players already signed to contract. The 15-round draft now means rosters sit at 18 total players per team.

Players who went undrafted are now eligible to sign a standard player agreement with an interested PWHL club. But teams can only have 20 players under contract before training camps open in November.

The inaugural PWHL season will begin in January of 2024 and feature a 24-game regular season schedule per team.

The five players from Manitoba selected are:

    2. Toronto: Jocelyne Larocque, D, (Ste. Anne, Manitoba) 1988, University of Minnesota Duluth, PWHPA

    8. Ottawa: Ashton Bell, D, (Delorain, Manitoba) 1999, University of Minnesota Duluth, NCAA

    14. Toronto: Kristen Campbell, G, (Brandon, Manitoba) 1997, University of Wisconsin, PWHPA

    30. Montreal: Kati Tabin, D, (Winnipeg, Manitoba) 1997, Quinnipiac University, PHF

    33. New York: Corinne Schroeder, G, (Elm Creek, Manitoba) 1999, Quinnipiac University, PHF
