The Winnipeg Jets have added veteran forward Sean Monahan to the fold. 

Heading back to Montreal is a 2024 first round draft pick and conditional third round selection in 2027. That second draft pick will go to the Canadiens if, and only if, the Jets capture the Stanley Cup this season.

The 29-year-old is amid a very productive second season with the bottom feeding Canadiens.

He has 13 goals and 35 points in 49 games for the Habs, and has drawn significant interest as the trade deadline approaches.

In 11 seasons of work, the 2013 sixth overall selection of the Calgary Flames has put up 231 goals and 514 points in 730 career regular season games with Calgary and Montreal. 

Winnipeg is in need of a true No. 2 centreman. That need has only become greater as the lower-body injury to Mark Schiefele has exposed a hole in the dominant Jets’ game.

Just 2-3-1 without Scheifele in the fold, the Jets will look to have Monahan fill a top-six role and contribute on a struggling power play.

The Brampton, ON. product is in the second half of a one-year contract carrying a $1.985 million cap hit. He did not have any sort of trade clause in his deal and will be an unrestricted free agent come July 1.
