Jets Add a Swedish Playmaker in the First Round
Winnipeg bolsters its future by drafting high-IQ centre Viggo Björck, a dynamic offensive threat whose elite vision and professional experience promise to redefine the Jets' top-six rotation.
The Winnipeg Jets added another highly skilled piece to their future on Friday night, selecting Swedish centre Viggo Björck with the eighth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward spent this past season with Djurgårdens IF, showcasing the elite hockey sense and playmaking ability that made him one of the top European prospects available.

His vision, puck skills and ability to create scoring chances have drawn praise throughout his development in Sweden, while his experience against professional competition in the Swedish Hockey League should only help prepare him for the next level.
While he isn't expected to make the jump to the NHL immediately, Björck gives Winnipeg another high-end centre prospect to build around for the future.
The selection continues a trend of the Jets investing in Swedish talent. Björck joins fellow prospect Alfons Freij as another player expected to continue his development overseas before eventually making the move to North America.
For a franchise that rarely finds itself selecting inside the top 10, Winnipeg used a valuable opportunity to add one of the draft's most dynamic offensive talents.
If Björck reaches his ceiling, the Jets may have landed a future top-six centre capable of driving offence for years to come.
