Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named one of the three Hart Trophy finalists, an award voted on by the PHWA.
Nominated alongside Hellebuyck are Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, who have previously won this award. Draisaitl led the NHL in goal scoring this season, taking home his first career Rocket Richard Trophy, and Kucherov led the NHL in points, collecting his third Art Ross Trophy.
As dominant as the pair of forwards were, Hellebuyck's resume speaks for itself. The 31-year-old was phenomenal from the first game of the regular season, leading the NHL in wins (47), goals against average (2.00) and shutouts (8) while finishing second in save percentage (.925) behind Toronto Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz, despite leading until the final game of the season.
He was named a finalist for the Vezina Trophy and took home his second consecutive Jennings Trophy.
Finishing as a finalist for the Hart Trophy confirms Hellebuyck's highest ranking yet. He has previously finished as high as sixth in Hart Trophy voting but is now guaranteed to surpass it with a top-three finish.
