Goaltender Jared Moe has become a free agent.

The Winnipeg Jets have opted not to sign goaltender Jared Moe.

With the team's exclusive signing rights having expired on Tuesday, August 15, the 24-year-old Minnesota product is now officially on the open market.

But whether he finds a taker is an entirely different story on its own.

Drafted 184th overall in the sixth round in 2018 out of the USHL's Waterloo Black Hawks, Moe was unable to substantially solidify his growth through the NCAA.

The southpaw netminder began his career with the University of Minnesota, where he played 16 games as a freshman; he only managed three contests during his second year with the Golden Gophers.

Moe requested a change of scenery and ultimately landed at the University of Wisconsin. He played 31 and 30 games in 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively, but saw his numbers worsen in his fourth year.

Moe's dismal 18-33-3 record through two seasons with the Badgers, paired with the emergence of Jets fellow goaltender draft picks Domenic DiVincentiis and Thomas Milic essentially paved the way for Winnipeg to walk on the sixth round pick.

Thanks to altered rules following the COVID pandemic, Moe is actually able to play out one more collegiate season, to which he requested a second transfer this spring. So far, nothing has materialized. Reports have indicated that he has since opted to turn pro for the 2023-24 season.

According to Puck Pedia, Winnipeg currently has 47 players signed to contracts, with restricted free agent defencemen Logan Stanley and Declan Chisholm still yet to sign. That will bring the number up to 49. Teams are allowed a maximum of 50 players under contract.
