Matvei Michkov scored the shootout winner, helping the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 road victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.
Jamie Drysdale scored Philadelphia's other goal on the evening, while Mark Scheifele responded for Winnipeg.
The narrow loss dropped the Jets' record to 42-15-4 on the season and served as the Jets' second-straight loss.
“We had our chances," Scheifele said post-game. "He made some saves. Their goalie made some big saves to keep them in it.”
After a sloppy opening 10 minutes, the Jets found the first goal of the game on a strong cycle play from the top line.
Kyle Connor found Gabe Vilardi alone in front of the net, who managed to get the disc over to Scheifele. He hammered home his 34th of the season, moving into a tie with William Nylander for second in league scoring.
Travis Konecny came close to knotting things up, but he found a post right behind Hellebuyck as the first period waned down.
The Flyers got on the board early on in the second period after some sloppy play by Winnipeg defenders. It was defenceman Jamie Drysdale who got his third of the season on a wrist shot square from the high slot.
After outshooting the Jets 2:1 in the opening frame, the visitors kept things up in the second, registering 28 shots to Winnipeg's 19 through 40 minutes of play.
The teams entered the third tied at ones.
With 5:33 remaining, Morgan Barron - who was making his return to the lineup following a month-long injury absence - drew a tripping call on Jamie Drysdale behind the Flyers' net, sending the ice cold Winnipeg power play to bat.
With 2:36 remaining, Morgan Barron - who was making his return to the lineup following a month-long injury absence - drew his second minor penalty of the period, this time a hooking call on Rasmus Ristolainen.
Despite the full four minutes of late-game power play time, Philadelphia pushed forward, killing off both disadvantages, sending the game to overtime.
“We had our chances. Nikky had a great chance, we just didn’t capitalize," Scheifele said. "I think we did a good job. Nikky scores that one and we’re not even asking the question.”
Winnipeg controlled the entire extra frame, but Fedotov was up to the test, keeping the Jets off the board in overtime, sending things to a shootout.
"Yeah, I mean those are the ones, you've gotta put a game away at that point," Ehlers said of the team's recent power play struggles. "You've gotta take advantage and we haven't been able to do that. I think our power play has gotten better over the last few games, at least in the right direction. But still too many mistakes and too many bad passes."
With all three members of the Jets' top line failing to score in the mini game, it was Michkov who sealed the deal on a slick finisher, helping Fedotov and the Flyers to a tight, inter-conference win.
Hellebuyck finished the night with 31 stops on the 32 pucks directed his way, while Fedotov made 30 saves on 31 Winnipeg shots.
Next up for the Jets is a four-game road trip through New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Carolina over the next week, before Winnipeg returns home in 10 days for a test against the Rangers.
