Jets Forward's Return To Seattle Was Eventful To Say The Least

Winnipeg Jets forward Brandon Tanev returned to Seattle just nine days after he was traded, and like most things Tanev does, it was done with high emotions and aggressiveness.

The 33-year-old received a loud standing ovation from the Seattle Kraken fans as a thank-you for the 41 goals and 83 points he gave them during his 238 games as a Kraken player.

Prior to Tanev and the Kraken fans showing their appreciation for one another, it was Tanev who set the tone with a thunderous hit on former teammate and youngster Shane Wright.

Tanev caught the 21-year-old centre with his head down watching the puck, and took advantage, hitting him in the side but catching Wright as his body turned. Wright went hard into the boards but bounced back immediately. A former linemate in Tye Kartye was first to the scene, starting a scrum that resulted in Tanev and Wright pushing each other.

No penalty was called for the hit, but Kartye and Tanev were assessed roughing penalties for the actions that took place following the hit.

Following the game, Kraken HC Dan Bylsma was asked about the Tanev hit and said, "That's what makes him an effective player. So heads up Wrighter, because I think you should expect it."

The Toronto, ON native, would finish the game with a shot on goal and two hits in 10:19 of ice time, helping the Jets secure the two points in overtime

Tanev was one of the two acquisitions the Jets made at the deadline, and what he portrayed last night was exactly what the Jets want from him. In the playoffs, they need Tanev to be hard on loose pucks, aggressive on the forecheck and mix it up in an attempt to throw their opponents off of their game.

Tanev demonstrated that he is willing to be physical against former teammates, especially a young and upcoming star of his former franchise, and this should indicate to Jets fans that Tanev will be willing to do what it takes to win in the playoffs.
