Winnipeg Jets goaltender Eric Comrie referred to the team's video coach, Matt Prefontaine, as "the Connor McDavid of video coaches."
Comrie turned away all 29 shots the Carolina Hurricanes threw at him yesterday, recording his first shutout of the season, the second of his Jets career and third in his career. The 29-year-old netminder kept his shutout intact due to Prefontaine noticing a goaltender interference infraction in what the Hurricanes thought was the game's opening goal.
Comrie was named the first star of the game for his performance but was eager to praise Prefontaine, someone he was previously fond of.
"So Matty is the best in the business. When I was in Buffalo, our video coach there we were talking about Matty like he's the greatest thing ever," said Comrie. "He's the Connor McDavid of video coaches."
Comrie had gone seven games without a win but finally got back in the win column on Jan. 26 against the Calgary Flames. Yesterday's shutout was his second consecutive win, improving his record to 5-7-2, with a .912 SV% and a 2.57 GAA.
Throughout his career and now in his third stint with the Jets, Comrie has been a beacon of joy, making his teammates laugh with his light-hearted spirit.
