The Winnipeg Jets have made the decision to send defender Declan Chisholm to the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose.
This move is for the sole purpose of getting the young blueliner into game action, as opposed to that of a demotion.
Having yet to play a game this season, Chisholm has not seen game action since September 29th - a preseason contest vs. Ottawa.
“He can’t sit," interim head coach Scott Arniel said following Winnipeg's Saturday afternoon game vs. Dallas. "We do have one opportunity to get him some games (in the AHL). We are talking about that right now. He can go down for two weeks."
A regular with the Moose over the past three seasons, the 23-year-old hasn't been able to find his way into the seemingly healthy Jets' defensive corps yet this year.
With Ville Heinola falling to injury in training camp, Chisholm did crack the squad alongside Logan Stanley. But between the two players, just Stanley has seen a single game of use, with Nate Schmidt coming out as a healthy scratch.
"He isn’t in position right now obviously, with (Logan Stanley) probably being ahead of him (on the depth chart) right now," Arniel continued. "Stan is another guy that has to get in and we’ll discuss that. In all likelihood, that’s what we’re going to move towards, because the schedule for the Moose right now is pretty busy too, so he can get a number of games in there.”
The Bowmanville, ON. product did suit up in two games with Winnipeg in the 2021-22 season. He was initially drafted 150th overall in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Manitoba hosts the Laval Rocket for a two-game set on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Puck drop is set for 2:00 PM on Sunday and 10:30 AM central time on Monday.
