Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers was forced to exit Thursday's win over the Vegas Golden Knights with a leg injury, resulting in him missing Friday's practice and deeming him a game-time decision on Saturday.
Early in the game, Ehlers blocked a Nicolas Hague point shot, which clearly stung him. The 29-year-old was able to continue but was later hit by a Cole Perfetti shot, which led to him exiting the game.
Ehlers recorded two shots on goal in 12:35 of ice time. This season, Ehlers has scored 24 goals and 63 points in 67 games.
Following the game, HC Scott Arniel told the media that he believes Ehlers will be alright. The Jets return to action on Saturday when they travel to Utah to complete a three-game road trip.
The original diagnosis deeming Ehlers a game-time decision is a positive sign that whatever he is dealing with isn't any long-term worry, but lots can change. With still no clear timetable given for Gabriel Vilardi, it's imperative that Ehlers' injury is a short-term issue.
