The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to a two-year contract.

On Monday afternoon, the club announced it had come to terms on a two-year deal with the 25-year-old Swedish winger.
Incentivized in the deal, the contract is two-way in nature for the first season, while becoming a one-way deal for the second year. So, in 2023-24, Jonsson-Fjallby will be able to be sent to and from the American Hockey League without penalty or the risk of being claimed on Waivers. But in 2024-25, that becomes a risk, should he need to be sent down.
He will make $775K in 2023-24 when playing at the NHL level, while making $775 guaranteed of where he plays the following season.
Despite coming up one game short of the NHL requirement of 75 to avoid becoming a Group VI unrestricted free agent this summer, Jonsson-Fjallby unexpectedly chose to return to Winnipeg, despite his up-and-down usage the past year.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward suited up in 50 games for the Jets last season, putting up six goals and eight assists for 14 points in a bottom-six role. Jonsson-Fjallby played four times for Manitoba, scoring three times and adding one assist.
He was claimed off Waivers from the Washington Capitals at the start of the season. In his career, Jonsson-Fjallby has 73 games to his name, to which he has eight goals and 18 total points.
The speedy Swede suited up for his country on a number of occasions, most recently the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, two which he had four points in seven games, to go along his silver medal.
Jonsson-Fjallby has an estimated $1.57 career earnings to his name.
