The Winnipeg Jets have made the move to recall defenceman Declan Chisholm from their American Hockey League affiliate.
Having been sent down to the Manitoba Moose two weeks prior on a conditioning stint, Chisholm suited up in six games for Manitoba. He put up five assists in that stretch.
The 23-year-old blueliner initially cracked the Jets' roster but was unable to draw into any game action. Ville Heinola's injury, paired with Logan Stanley's health has kept a revolving door in terms of the team's sixth through eighth defenders.
Perfectly healthy, Winnipeg's defensive depth include Josh Morrissey, Neal Pionk, Dylan DeMelo, Dylan Samberg, Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt. With Stanley filling in for Schmidt every now and again, the team really has no use for Chisholm.
So the move to send him to Manitoba was solely to get him into some game action, as indicated by interim head coach Scott Arniel prior to the move.
With six games under his belt, Chisholm will now rejoin the big league team and up his pay to the NHL level over the next period of time. Whether he draws into the lineup remains a question, and to whom he replaces? A whole other discussion.
In 59 AHL games last season, The former 150th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft had five goals and 43 points. He was the team's year-end MVP and has accumulated 16 goals and 91 points over 146 career AHL contests.
Both Winnipeg and Manitoba are in action on Sunday evening, as the Jets wrap up their three-game road trip in Nashville, while the Moose conclude their six-game road trip in Grand Rapids. Both clubs return home for games at Canada Life Centre later in the week.
