The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Alex Iafallo to a three-year, $11M contract extension, which will pay him $3.67M annually.
The Jets acquired Iafallo in the package that saw Pierre-Luc Dubious head to the Los Angeles Kings. Since Iafallo's arrival, he's scored 26 goals and 58 points in 163 games, including 15 goals and 31 points this year.
His addition to the lineup has been vital due to his versatility. When he plays in the bottom six, the 31-year-old is trusted to play a defensively responsible game and chip in with depth scoring, but he also has the skill to play on the top line, as he's been doing since Gabriel Vilardi went down with an injury.
Iafallo is an example of what hard work can get a player. He played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before signing with the Kings as an undrafted college free agent. He's now played eight seasons in the NHL, amassing 262 points in 583 games.
His current cap hit is $4M, and he is taking a pay cut, allowing the Jets to utilize their cap space in the future when they attempt to re-sign Nikolaj Ehlers, Dylan Samberg, Neal Pionk, and Vilardi.
