The Winnipeg Jets have signed former New Jersey Devils starting netminder, Kaapo Kähkönen to a one-year, $1 million deal.
The 27-year-old Finnish netminder is a solid addition to the Jets' depth in goal, and should learn from an organization that is known for excellence at the goaltender position.
Kähkönen has seen bright spots during his time in the NHL - like his time in Minnesota, where he played 54 games and finished with a 31-17-4 record and a 2.89 goals against average.
He was then dealt to the Sharks during the 2021-22 season and has since struggled to capture similar numbers. In 79 games for San Jose, Kähkönen’s numbers soured to a record of 17-46-11 with a goals-against average of 3.71 and a .892 save percentage.
He was a starting netminder during that time but Kähkönen will now get to settle into Winnipeg and won’t feel as much pressure as he did before, while also getting to utilize the Jets' great goaltending system. Winnipeg has the fourth-best team goals against average at 2.77 since the 2017-18 season.
