Defenceman Dawson Barteaux has been assigned to the ECHL.

Dawson Barteaux has not been able to escape the organizational defensive depth of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose.

Signed to a one-year contract this past July, the Foxwarren, Manitoba product has been unable to crack the Moose lineup through six games this season.

Rather than have him waste away in the press box, Manitoba management has opted to send Barteaux to the ECHL for the foreseeable future.

The 2018 sixth round pick of the Stars will report to the Idaho Steelheads where he has played in parts of both the past two seasons. After suiting up as a mainstay with the AHL's Texas Stars in 2020-21, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound blueliner split his time with the AHL's Texas Stars and Steelheads in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

It appears he may be in line for a full season of work in the ECHL again this year.

Of the nine rostered defencemen, only seven have seen playing time so far this season, with Barteaux not being one.

In seven total games for Texas last season, Barteaux had two points - both of which occurred in the Calder Cup Playoffs. In 62 games with Idaho, he had two goals and 24 points. Last year's ECHL playoffs saw the 23-year-old add a goal and eight points in 14 postseason games.

Manitoba's remaining defencemen include: Tyrel Bauer, Ashton Sautner, Simon Lundmark, Artemi Kniazev, Jimmy Oligny, Dean Stewart, Kyle Capobianco and Dmitry Kuzmin.
