Winnipeg signed depth forward Tanner Pearson to a one-year deal to fill bottom six role.
The Winnipeg Jets are coming off a historic season, where they hit franchise bests across the board but with it coming to an end, they were forced to make some tough decisions.
They had one of the most impactful lines in the league over the last few seasons, spearheaded by captain Adam Lowry with Nino Niederreiter and Mason Appleton on the wings.
Lowry is set to be out for a majority of the season while Appleton left for the Detroit Red Wings in free agency. This leaves hole that the Jets would like to fulfil as this lines impact can't be understated and they'll need to make an add back into the bottom six that can leave a lasting impact. Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will try to do this with former Stanley Cup champion Tanner Pearson.
Could Jacob Trouba Return to Winnipeg?
Anaheim's Jacob Trouba enters the final-year of his deal and could return to the team that drafted him.
After operating for years as a middle-six forward with decent 40 point upside, he now finds himself on the back nine of his career with his averages dropping to roughly 30 points a season.
This could work for a Jets team that needs all four of their lines to be effective plus Pearson will have the experience of a player that made regular deep runs in the playoffs with the LA Kings and should bring another level to the fourth line.
Pearson, 32, is currently slated to play alongside newcomer Cole Koepke, who is coming off a career-best year with the Bruins. The hope is he finishes with 30 or more points again as he's hit the mark five times with injuries preventing him from hitting it more times.
The Kitchener native will need to bring his best and will be pushed to hit his marks as the Jets have many up-and-coming talents like Brad Lambert and Nikita Chibrikov that will almost certainly test for his NHL job.
Meet The New Guy: Jonathan Toews
Jets sign hockey legend and Winnipeg native Jonathan Toews to one-year deal in the hopes of gaining an impactful second line centre.
