The Manitoba Moose have re-signed captain Jimmy Oligny for 2023-24.

The Moose have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Oligny to return for the coming year - his sixth with the club.

"I'm really excited," the Moose captain said in an interview with Moose TV's Austin Siragusa. "As you guys know now, it's home for me and, I'm really grateful for the opportunity to keep going with the Moose."

Although only getting to dress in 17 games last season due to injury, the 30-year-old defenceman is ready to return for 2023-24 as healthy as can be.

"I went through that adversity of not playing all year," Oligny said in his team interview. "But being in the gym and all that, I think some guys saw it and it helped them not taking every day for granted and stuff and gave it their all while they can. So, yeah, that way I think I still made a difference."

Although off the ice for the majority of last season, Oligny was able to stay active within his community - something he has taken pride in throughout his career. For the third time in four years he was named the team's community service award recipient, while taking home the AHL's 2022-23 Man of the Year for his involvement within local organizations and charities.

The Saint Michel, Quebec product had three assists and 30 penalty minutes in those 17 games. The year before saw four goals, 17 points and 91 penalty minutes in 67 games.

"I can't wait to start next season and start playing right away, of course, but we got the summer ahead of us too."

And what does that summer entail?

"Pretty packed summer, to be honest," he laughed. "When we get back home it's always a crazy time because everybody wants to see us.

2023-24 will be Oligny's 10th season in the league, and third as captain of the Moose. He has 17 goals, 93 points and 713 penalty minutes to his name in 465 regular season AHL contests.
