Moose go 1-1 in weekend series, finish road trip 3-3.

The Manitoba Moose have earned two of a possible four points over a weekend set with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Moose concluded their six-game road trip with a series split from Van Andel Arena in Michigan in a Friday/Sunday showdown.

After losing 5-1 in the opener, Manitoba battled back for a 3-2 win on Sunday

Jeff Malott found the only goal on Friday, beating former Jets netminder Michael Hutchinson with nine seconds remaining, ruining his bid for a shutout.

Despite making 32 saves, goaltender Collin Delia was pegged with the loss.

Things shook out differently on Sunday, as Oskari Salminen backstopped the team to a 3-2 road win with 29 saves. Hutchinson, who suited up for both games, recorded the loss with just 18 saves on 21 shots faced.

Wyatt Bongiovanni scored the winner on perfectly-placed shot just past the midway mark of the frame, as he and Chaz Lucius picked up their second points of the game.

Defenceman Kyle Capobianco produced three assists in the game, one of which was his 100th career AHL helper.

“Obviously it was huge to go 3-3 on the road trip,” Lucius said. “I think it gives a lot of confidence for the guys going back home. I think it was really good to gte the win today."

The Moose now return home for a two-game weekend series with the familiar Rockford IceHogs. The opening game goes on Friday at 7:00 PM central time. It can be viewed live on AHL TV.
