The National Hockey League has announced Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery as its Jack Adams Award winner for the 2024-25 season.

Despite guiding the Winnipeg Jets to an impressive 56-22-4 record and the league's Presidents' Trophy, head coach Scott Arniel did not muster up enough votes for the award.

Carbery's Capitals won the Eastern Conference and made a significant jump in the standings from the 2023-24 season - hence the improvement for Carbery's award.

After going 40-31-11 for a 17th-place finish last year, the Capitals bounced back to go 51-22-9 - good for a 20-point improvement year-over-year.

Winnipeg, which finished last season with the fourth-best record at 52-24-6, was deemed not to have improved enough for Arniel to take home the prize.

Interestingly, it was Arniel's first year as the head coach in Winnipeg, while Carbery was in year No. 2 with Washington - which also may have weighed into the decision on those voting.

Carbery finished with 464 points and 81 first-place votes, while Arniel had 249 points, which included 16 first-place votes.
