Prepare for tight parking, free candy, and photo ops as the hometown hero brings hockey’s ultimate prize to Tuxedo Community Centre for a whirlwind two-hour celebration.
Seth Jarvis is bringing the Stanley Cup home to Winnipeg on Monday afternoon, but fans planning to attend his public appearance will want to know a few things before heading to Tuxedo Community Centre.
Organizers have released an updated event plan for the afternoon celebration, including separate viewing options, parking restrictions and one notable limitation: Jarvis will not be signing autographs.
The Winnipeg product is scheduled to appear at the community centre from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and with turnout difficult to predict, organizers have created three different ways for fans to take part.
Those hoping to welcome Jarvis when he arrives can gather inside the outdoor rink and cheer him on as he makes his way into the building.
Fans looking for a more personal experience can join a separate line to meet Jarvis and have a photo taken with him and the Stanley Cup.
There will also be another line for those simply hoping to see Jarvis and the Cup from a distance and take their own pictures. Fans using that option will not be able to pose for a photo with Jarvis.
The structure is designed to keep people moving during a fairly tight two-hour window. Because of the potential crowd size, Jarvis will not be signing autographs during the event. And those who know Tuxedo know that parking could also be at a premium.
The west parking lot at the community centre will be closed, while parking on the grass and in the back alley will not be permitted. Organizers are encouraging fans to walk or use public transportation where possible, with residential parking available in the surrounding area.
They are also asking attendees to be mindful of children using the community centre's preschool and grounds throughout the day.
And there will be one extra touch aimed specifically at Jarvis.
As widely documented, the Hurricanes forward is a big candy fan, so volunteers will be handing out free candy bars inside the building while supplies last, with 10 different varieties available.
Monday's appearance comes after Jarvis helped Carolina capture the Stanley Cup earlier this summer, giving the 24-year-old Winnipegger his first championship at the NHL level.
Now, instead of celebrating on the road, he gets a chance to share the Cup with fans in the city where he grew up.
Jarvis will be at Tuxedo Community Centre, located at 368 Southport Blvd., from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday.
