In a memorable moment for hometown fans, veteran forward Jonathan Toews scored his first goal as a member of the Winnipeg Jets during their game Monday against the Calgary Flames. The tally came in a big way as early into the third period, when Toews deflected a shot in front of the net to tie the game at 1‑1 while also giving the Jets momentum to come back and win the game. A Mark Scheifele goal late into the period eventually put Winnipeg ahead as they won their fifth straight game. The goal was hopefully one of many and served as an early milestone in Toews’s comeback season. After missing significant time due to health issues, he has been working his way back and building his role in Winnipeg’s lineup. Prior to Monday, Toews had recorded no goals and three assists (two of which came on the power play) for three points as well as a -1 rating, six penalty minutes and four shots on net through his first five games this season.
